49 Degrees North

February 11-13, 2021
Hosts: Rick Garrison and Birgitte Ahring
(Date changed from February 18-20 due to new blackout dates)

49 Degrees North is Washington State's 2nd largest ski resort located in the stunning Colville National Forest. It is the region's favorite family-friendly resort with full service alpine ski area, 1850 vertical drop, five chairlifts.  Lift lines are short or non-existent, runs are long.

Just 50 miles north of Spokane off Hwy 395 in Chewelah.

Friday night as people arrive in Chewelah we'll have a Meet & Greet at the Nordlig Motel banquet hall, food and beverage courtesy of the Club.

Saturday after skiing ends your hosts, Rick and Birgitte, will throw a Skiing Tailgate Party in the ski resort parking lot -- food and beverages provided.  Look for the RV with the party lights and music.  Bring your favorite fold up chair to pull up around the fire.

Ski Sunday, then head home.

If you will be attending, be sure to register in advance.  Registering for the event:

  • Lets us know how many are coming so we can plan accordingly
  • Provides the funds to buy your food and beverages
  • Allows us to coordinate carpooling and accommodations for those who want this service

Remember that you can cancel at any time for a full refund if your plans change.

Social Events:
Friday Meet & Greet and Saturday Tailgate Party, including food and beverage, for a total of $55 payable to the Club through the registration process on this website.

Drive yourself or carpool.  Carpool gas costs are shared equally between the passengers and the driver.  Round trip distance between the Tri-Cities and 49 Degrees North, including the commute to/from accommodations in Chewelah, is 440 miles.

  • When you register for the event you will have the option to have the Desert Ski Club help arrange a carpool for you, respecting your COVID precaution preferences.

We recommend the Nordlig Motel in Chewelah, the town nearest to the resort. Rooms with one or two beds start at $65 per day.  There are only 14 rooms at the Nordlig, and the cheaper rooms fill first, so book as soon as possible.  Once the Nordlig Motel sells out, which it will, then we recommend the Chewelah Creek Inn, 509-935-8166, where prices are comparable to the Nordlig Motel.

  • When you register for the event you will have the option to have the Desert Ski Club help arrange a roommate (same sex) for you, respecting your COVID precaution preferences.

Lift tickets:
Adult  (Age 18-69): $67 per day "TBD"
Senior (Age 70-79): $62 per day "TBD"
We recommend you buy lift tickets online in advance.  If you have a Bluewood seasons pass or an Indy Pass or are Age 80 or older you can ski for free.  Stay and Ski tickets are available at Nordlig during check-in.

*** All participants are expected to follow current COVID precautions and regulations at time of event ***

Additional details about the trip, including when and where to meet for skiing and for social events, will be provided later via email to registrants.
